The First Film
We saw the opening night film tonight, the aforementioned Chicago 10. It combined animation and rock music and real footage and animation and it was a captivating and innovative way to tell the story of what happened during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. I was sad to admit I don't know a lot about that actual event in our history and it was incredible to hear what went down.
The director (Brett Morgen) was engaging when he introduced the film, and even provocative afterwards. He was trying to get the crowd excited for what he felt was the important political message to take away from the film (the obvious, since it's the story of anti-war protests). I didn't feel the audience was very receptive, probably because it's the opening night film and there were likely a lot of (conservative?) Salt Lake and Park City people as well as hoity toity sponsors. Maybe I'm wrong. I bet he'll get a better reception during subsequent screenings.
We have tickets to two movies screening tomorrow and they are:
Expired, starring Samantha Morton, Jason Patric, Teri Garr and Illeana Douglas. It is in the dramatic competition.
Delirious, starring MIchael Pitt, Steve Buscemi, Alison Lohman and Gina Gershon
We also MUST see The Ten, showing at midnight. We will have to waitlist or find extra tickets. It may be a challenge.
Now we have to go to Albertsons and then get to BED - WE ARE TIRED!!
PS - there is no Internet where we are staying. Nightmare.
